From the first encounter, the all-new Lexus RX makes many a heart beat faster with its powerful SUV design made to stand out. It exudes power and energy from all sides, with a determined appearance, combined with a driver-focused ‘Tazuna’ cockpit that offers the option of choosing an animal-free leather finish. To discover what we mean by ‘Experience Amazing’, all you have to do is get behind the wheel of the new RX 450h+ Plug-in Hybrid, RX 500h Performance Hybrid or the RX 350h hybrid yourself.
The new RX was developed on our GA-K platform, with a longer wheelbase and additional cross members to increase torsional rigidity. This extra rigidity allowed Lexus engineers to fine-tune the rear suspension more precisely, improving both performance and ride comfort. The new platform is 90 kilos lighter and also has a lower centre of gravity. Despite a 60-millimetre longer wheelbase, the overall length of the chassis has remained the same. Combined with a wider track width and larger rims, this gives the new RX a more confident look and more grip.
The new RX is equipped with the advanced active safety and assistance systems of the third, latest generation of the Lexus Safety System +. In addition to some enhanced features, new functions were added, with benefits including an increased ability to react preventively to potential danger. The Driver Monitor monitors if the driver shows signs of fatigue, or is otherwise distracted. This new feature uses a camera near the steering wheel. For example, Proactive Driving Assist uses the front camera to determine the angle of a turn, and based on that, adjust the degree of steering assist when approaching a corner.
Lexus designers were determined to give the new NX a powerful look. Partly for this reason, a more dynamic grille with integrated frame was developed.
