THE BEATING HEART OF THE SUPER 3
Almost a century after the introduction of the F-Type three-wheeler, Ford has again been chosen to supply the engine. This is the innovative 1.5-litre atmospheric three-cylinder petrol engine. The engine is mated to a five-speed Mazda gearbox, as found in the MX-5 and used in the out-of-production Morgan 3 Wheeler. Unlike the previous model, however, no ‘compensator’ is needed in the driveline, minimising complexity and weight. The bevel box (bevel box is angled gearing behind the seat where the cardan shaft transitions to belt drive) has been redesigned using a modified tooth profile and is driven by a carbon fibre-reinforced drive belt.

PERFORMANCE TO SURPRISE
The foundation of the Morgan Super 3 is a bonded aluminium Superformed monocoque platform. Morgan’s expertise with bonded aluminium body panels goes back more than two decades, with the start of Aero 8 production, and was further expanded with the CX-Generation platform used for the Plus Four since 2020 and in the Plus Six since 2019. The Super 3 platform evolves that technology even further.
For the first time in Morgan’s history, the platform is a true monocoque. This not only makes for a lighter and stiffer chassis, but also offers construction advantages and gives more interior space for occupants. Its rigidity not only benefits the car’s dynamics but also increases safety, with the Super 3 meeting the same demanding M1 and Reg. 12 frontal impact standards as Morgan’s Plus Four and Plus Six.
